Welcome to the history of the Himalayan Holistic Mission (HHM). HHM is a non-profit organization registered with the Government of Nepal under Registration No. 337289/08/81, Social Welfare Council Affiliation No. 58142, and PAN No. 621147566. HHM was officially established in 2024, and our office is located in Tarkeshwor-02, Kathmandu, Nepal. Although it was formally founded in 2024, the vision behind HHM had been growing in the heart of our Founder, Mr. Shusil Kumar Tamang, for many years.
Mr. Shusil Kumar Tamang was born into a middle-class farming family in a remote Himalayan village. He is the eldest of five children. When he was 17 years old, his father passed away, bringing immense financial hardship to the family. With his mother unable to support everyone on her own, Mr. Tamang had to discontinue his education and begin working in construction to support his siblings. Later, due to the same economic strain, his two younger sisters were also forced to leave school.
During this difficult period, Mr. Tamang experienced the harsh realities of poverty, single orphanhood, and vulnerability. These hardships left a lasting impact on him, leading to a personal vow: ‘If I ever become successful, I will share my gains with those in need, just as I once was.’ This commitment to serving the most vulnerable in society became his life’s mission.
By God’s grace and with the support of kind-hearted individuals, Mr. Tamang was able to resume his education after a gap of seven years. As his family’s situation gradually improved over the years, he developed a deep desire to give back to the community. He began reaching out to vulnerable groups, offering support and inspiring them to live joyful lives despite their challenges. Additionally, he encouraged others to pursue sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship. Over time, he and his family consistently supported marginalized communities to the best of their ability. These acts of kindness brought them both fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment. The gratitude expressed by those they helped strengthened his resolve and further motivated him to continue serving others.
Since 2020, Mr. Tamang and his family have been supporting vulnerable communities more extensively, starting with providing partial scholarships to three orphans while continuing their efforts in other areas. These experiences taught Mr. Tamang valuable lessons and deepened his understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable communities, particularly in the Himalayan regions. He recognized the need for a broader, more organized approach and collective action to address these challenges effectively. This realization led him to officially register an organization with the Government of Nepal. After 20 years of dedication, his vision became a reality in 2024 with the establishment of the Himalayan Holistic Mission (HHM).
Today, HHM leads three core missions:
• Compassion Mission
• Educational Mission
• Sustainable Community Development Mission
Under these missions, we implement initiatives such as the Scholarship Program, School Supplies Distribution, Seasonal Apparel Distribution, Food Assistance Program, Emergency Relief and Assistance, Heritage and Cultural Awareness Program, and Business Training for Entrepreneurs. Through these projects, we strive to uplift vulnerable communities across the Himalayan region and create lasting positive change.
From humble beginnings to a powerful movement for positive change, the story of the Himalayan Holistic Mission reflects the unwavering commitment of Mr. Shusil Kumar Tamang and his family to uplifting the lives of vulnerable communities. Through dedication, compassion, and collective action, HHM continues to make a lasting impact across the Himalayan region, transforming lives and building a brighter future.
As we look ahead, we remain focused on expanding our reach and deepening our efforts to serve those in need. We invite you to join us in this mission and help create a world where compassion, education, and community development thrive for all.
